St Paul wedding at the Science Museum: Sarah+Kearn
The St Paul Science Museum is such a spectacular venue! When you meet your couple for the first time and they tell you about their dinosaur themed wedding at the science museum, you know this is going to be a beautiful friendship and kick ass wedding!
As told by Sarah and Kearn
How did you meet and fall in love?
Taken from our wedding ceremony (which Kearn wrote):
They lived in the same building for over a year and didn’t cross paths. During this time, Kearn had become a regular attendee of a geeky yoga class, as had one of Sarah’s friends. Eventually Sarah’s friend was able to convince her to go to the geeky yoga class, because the theme for the week was Batman, her favorite super hero. Kearn, who’s favorite super hero is also Batman, not only attended, but chose to dress for the occasion – black running tights, a black t-shirt, and Batman boxers over top of it all, complete with printed on utility belt and tiny attached boxer cape. Sarah and Kearn started talking after class and discovered they both lived in the same building. They geeked out about Batman, Doctor Who, and new medical procedures, the details of which we will not mention here.
Though they lived in the same building, it was not luxurious. In fact, the conversation turned to the fact that the heat in Sarah’s apartment would frequently go out, and the heat in Kearn’s apartment would frequently get stuck on high. It wasn’t long before Sarah was drawn to the warmth of Kearn’s personality, and his apartment, and arrived at his door wrapped up in a blanket like a little Sarah burrito. They decided to watch episodes of a Doctor Who spin off, but instead just enjoyed each other’s company, got lost in conversation, and forgot about the show.
How did you choose your venue?
Extensive research regarding prices, availability, location, caterer options, parking, responsiveness of staff, and availability of a T-Rex. The St Paul Science Museum won.
What were your thoughts leading up to your wedding day?
I can’t wait until the wedding is over so we can just be married (and done with all this wedding shit).
What was your favorite part of the day?
Our ceremony. Kearn wrote the whole ceremony and it was a mix of heartfelt, silly, and traditional.
What is your favorite image from your wedding day and why?
We love the photo of the two of us on the balcony at sunset. It’s so romantic and beautiful. The photo of our hands during the ceremony is so touching (pardon the pun).
Is there anything that you would change?
I would have loved more pictures of people chatting during the reception, but other than that, no.
What is your best advice to anyone planning a wedding?
It’s all going to cost at least twice as much as you expect, the sooner you accept that and adjust your budget you’ll have less headaches. Also, have water bottles stashed around your wedding getting ready rooms, and along for pictures. Dehydration is not fun or pretty.
Why did you choose Emmerlee?
We clicked during our initial meeting with her. She promised 15 min group photos, and Kearn and I teared up looking at photos she’d taken at strangers’ weddings.
