“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” -Eleanor Roosevelt
The Great Bull Run can be summed up in four simple words: Running. With. Real. Bulls. This event is modeled after the famous San Fermin festival in Pamplona, Spain, though much safer. As a photographer it’s always my biggest challenge to keep myself and equipment safe while getting into the best position to capture the action. Standing on the fence as the bulls and people ran by was enough of a rush for me but it was tempting to get inside the fence. Just like in Spain the bull run was followed up by a giant tomato fight called Tomato Royal. I’ve photographed the tomato fight before, but this time everyone was inside a fence and once the tomatoes started flying I was stuck in the inside until things settled down.Staying out the way and clean while still staying close to the action was the hard part. I took a direct hit a few times but managed to keep my camera’s clean! Luckily for the participants they had some makeshift showers on site so they could clean off the bulk of the goo.
