“Life itself is the most wonderful fairytale of all”. —Hans Christian Andersen
Last night was the first screening of Rich Poor Man a documentary about Bruce McCabe. Bruce McCabe has been playing keyboards since the 60’s and if you would like to read an indepth article about his early career there is a great piece in the Blues Foundation. He’s been a regular member of Lamont Cranston for many years and currently plays with them, was the co-leader of the Hoopsnakes and has his own band The Rich Poor Men. Bruce left the Hoopsnakes to play with Jonny Lang and is the songwriter responsible for Jonny Lang’s biggest hit, “Lie to Me.”
Bruce’s son Dan wanted to tell his story and produced this documentary when his dad was battling brain cancer — grade 3 astrocytoma — for the second time. The evenings special guests was Jack Knife & the Sharps. After the documentary was shown, Bruce’s band the Rich Poor Men played a set. The band has been on hiatus while Bruce was getting treatment. The crowd was thrilled to see them playing together again! It was great to see the documentary and to hear a little bit of Bruce’s story.
